Bermondsey Wall West.

The first development project in which the directors of Cedar Rydal worked together was Avilla Development’s project which involved a change of use from light industrial zoned wharf buildings on the south bank of the Thames, close to Tower Bridge, into a £60m mixed-use development incorporating approximately 190 flats, shops and offices.

This was an especially complicated site involving the retention and incorporation of listed buildings in a conservation area alongside new-build elements.

Infrastructure arrangements including the diversion of a high pressure gas main, together with an underground car park under a public highway necessitated highways closure negotiations. The negotiations with the planners / valuers and English Heritage were complicated, however, a planning permission and Section 106 Agreement were all secured within approximately a year. In addition, we succeeded in having a listed building removed from ‘The Register of Listed Buildings’ – an important feature in the redevelopment of the site.

Work on site commenced in 2001 and was completed in 2004, having entered into a joint venture arrangement with Berkley Homes. Above, are two progress shots from 2003.
